San Bushmen Authentic Ostrich Shell Head Band
A Great addition to your African Tribal Ethnic San Koi collection.
A truly magnificent specimen of the very labour intensive ostrich shell bead/disc work of the Koisan peoples, also known as the Bushmen. The ostrich shells "beads" are prized above shell disc because they are more robust than shell and rarer to find in nature. They are strung together using sinew and take a very long time to mak. The wider the band, the more prestigious the status. This is quite a wide band and the original maker/owner must have had quite some standing in the tribe, perhaps even a chief's wife, mother or daughter. Some minor bead/shell disc loss as seen in top right of 1st and 3rd pic. This is not "made of tourists" and is a rare find indeed.
