Replica coin of coins used in South Africa between 1652 and 1830.
The reverse of each is marked "Van Riebeeck Replika" These were packed in tins of van Riebeeck instant coffee.
Issued in conjunction with the 1952 Jan van Riebeeck festival in Cape Town which opened on 13 March 1952 and was officially proclaimed as Africa's version of the Crystal Palace Empire Exhibition that was held in London in 1851. This was celebrating the Jan van Riebeeck Tercentenary on the 6th April 1952.
