The PHI Yggdrasil – Technical details
The PHI Yggdrasil is our high-sensitivity single driver loudspeaker. The design is very similar to our downPHI® but utilises a custom-built dual-cone driver with a sensitivity of 94.4 dB/Watt. Initial results indicate sensitivities in excess of 98dB/Watt for the completed units.

The loudspeaker is by no means small, as suggested by the name, offering a sculptural presence that complements any valve-based power amplifier. The extended frequency response obviates the need for any high frequency driver, but super tweeters can be fitted if desired.

As is the case with all our loudspeaker systems, the Yggdrasil offers immediacy and liveliness that need to be heard to be appreciated; these qualities are best shown when used with low-powered single-ended triode amplifiers or similarly powered push-pull valve amplifiers.
The quoted price is for the PHI Yggdrasil made in Iroko. Prices for speakers made in other wood types will be made available on request.

Hi Eddie. I have forwarded your question to the developer and copied his answer. Regards, Johan.

Hi Eddie. Happy New Year! The biggest advantage of the Yggdrasil over standard loudspeakers is the "speed" of the loudspeaker. Sounds are integrated, as if they originate from the actual sound source and not from a series of drivers like one finds in most loudspeakers. The Yggdrasil is also a high efficiency loudspeaker that needs very little power to drive it (only one or two Watt for very loud output.) It will work with the Yamaha though - one will find that it's unnecessary to turn the volume above about 25%. Our standard silk dome supertweeters will add about R400 to the cost. Double that when they're arranged as a bipole. The bipolar arrangement adds spaciousness to the sound - a sense of a very deep and realistic sound stage.

I hope this answers your questions. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you need more information. Sincerely, Jacques.
