A large section is devoted to the remarkable men who explored along the river or crossed it - Wikar, Gordon, Paterson, Le Vaillant, Barrow, Burchell and others. these men were artists and their drawings and paintings have been used to illustrate this book, some published for the first time: others only reproduced in very rare and expensive Africana books."
