On auction we have the very scarce "PER NOCTEM PER DIEM" (By day, by night), autographed in Nov. 1975 by one of the authors, Lieutenant P.M.J McGregor.

"Foreword by General Sir Pierre van Ryneveld, K.B.E., C.B., D.S.O., M.C. – This book is called “The Story of No. 24 Squadron, South African Air Force”. The “story” part lies in the adventures, the narrow squeaks, the sand storms and flies, the fun and humour and teasing and ragging and everything else that goes to make up the group  life of a small community of healthy and virile young South Africans imbued with surpassing devotion to their branch of the fighting forces. The rest is a chapter of history, a history not only of 24 Squadron but one epitomising that of the whole South African Air Force, and written not by an historian of later times but by the boys, now men, who themselves lived and made that history. It is a grim record, but then war is a grim business".
