This study investigates the origins of the Christian Indians who arrived in Natal between 1860 and 1911 either as indentured labourers or passenger immigrants..........This is followed by a history of the missions opened by various Christian denominations among the Indians in Natal.......

Sources used are mainly original and unpublished and include the shipping lists and pass registers kept at the Department of Indian Affairs. Only the section on the Christian Church in India depends on printed sources. There are a number of photographs and a large scale map showing the districts in India from which the Christians came.
