DESCRIPTION:

An ivory glazed china preserve jar and cover, issued to commemorate the
Empire Exhibition - Rykstentoonstelling, South Africa - Suid Afrika, held in
Johannesburg from September 1936 to January 1937, which coincided with
the 50th Jubilee anniversary of Johannesburg's founding in 1886. Decorated
with a red and green transfer-printed Protea and a light brown Springbok.

PROVENANCE:

Purchased by Mr & Mrs J. Geyser on the 26th November 1936. A laminated
photocopy of the certificate of attendance is included in the auction.

MARKS:

Crown Devon, Fielding's and Made in England.

CONDITION:

Overall stained crazing, with four chips to jar rim and one to lid rim.

DIMENSIONS:

Approximately 8.5cm diameter X 11cm height.
