Debut album by up-and-coming Cape Town indie pop / rock band, The New York Robbers. “Dream Girl” The New York Robbers are from Somerset West, South Africa. Siblings Lehza and Hein formed the band in 2008 (when they were 16 & 18 years old) and like to make 'feel-good indie pop/rock with a twist'. Among their influences are The Ting Tings, The White Stripes, The Killers, merry-go-rounds and hula-hoops. The band's debut EP titled ‘8-Bit Heroes’ (released Dec. 2008) was self-written, performed, engineered & produced - mainly in pajamas whilst drinking copious amounts of tea and continually having to tell Dougie (their cute talking dog who features on the first track, ‘Mom’) to stop talking so much in between takes. No puppies were harmed during the recording however – only hugged. The New York Robbers have enjoyed over 6000 plays on internet radio stations Jango and Last.fm. Their first single ‘Dream Girl’ peaked at no. 3 on the Top 30 SA Download Chart (SAmp3.com) and has been featured by well-known SA publications, including Channel 24 (who rated the track 5 stars) and Bluntmag.co.za. They are now selling albums worldwide through online stores including iTunes, Amazon.com and Rhythm Online.
