A marvelous marriage of Mappin and Webb Casing and Vincenti et cie movement. Mappin and Webb started in 1774 by Jonathan Mappin and George Webb joined the company in 1858. Today they are the silversmiths to Her Majesty the Queen. Vincenti et cie had his factory in Montbelaird from 1823 - 1870. The markings on the back of the clock with his name include Medialle 'D' argent which means SILVER MEDAL. He was awarded these in both 1834 and 1855 and the clockmakers were allowed to use it with his name as a sign of quality.
Measurements: height - 28cm
Dating back to the era of heavy black wood of Victoria design. Unfortunately cannot remember what the clockmaker said, but extremely heavy. Back side has the original cloth. Movement is a rack striking system on a coiled gong. Serial numbers are consistant throughout the movement.......Vincenti et cie, Medaille D'argent - 3574548. Has all the keys and in working condition.
There are some dates on the clock that have been etched into the wood. I would assume that they are clockmakers dates of repair. Have never had it valued proffessionally , the last repair done to the pendulum valued it at R30 000.00 due to the Vincenti movement.(done approx 15 years ago)
This is a gorgeous ANCIENT piece, would prefer if it could be couriered with insurance or picked up at an address in JHB
