Smith (b. 1787), Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Cape of Good Hope. Signed 8th of August 1850. 2) Major-Gen. Sir George Thomas Napier (b. 1784) Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Cape of Good Hope. Signed 15th April 1841. 3) Lieutenant-General Charles C. Hay (b. 1809) Lieutenant-Governor of the Cape of Good Hope. Signed 28 July 1870. The document is also signed by Charles Bell, Surveyor-General of the Cape Colony and the designer the well-known Cape of Good Hope triangular stamp. The second item you are bidding on here is a Land Grant signed by Major-Gen. Sir George Thomas Napier on 15th April 1841. Among the many of his titles on the document are “…Governor and Commander in Chief of Her Majesty’s Castle, Town, and Settlement of the Cape of Good Hope, in South Africa …” (Sir George Napier was Governor of the Cape of Good Hope from 1838 to 1844. The town of Napier in the Western Cape is named after him) Please note that the document have supporting tape at the back (professionally done). Also note its huge size in the first picture compared to a 30 cm (12 inch) ruler next to it. The two brown strips on the front of the document are due to previous restoration. Note Governor Napier’s titles in the following scan of the top part of the document (it is too big to scan as one document) … The following picture is a close up of Governor Napier’s signature on the 15th April 1841 Please also see the other two extraordinary Cape of Good Hope Documents I currently have on auction on Bid-or-Buy I offer a 100% 7-day money back guarantee and combine postage at NO extra cost . |
