Walter Taylor Jubber was born in Queenstown, Cape Colony on 6.9.1881. He enlisted as a Trumpeter in the Frontier Mounted Rifles (No331) 30.11.98 which at the time was regarded as an elite Eastern Province volunteer formation. At the outbreak of the 2nd Boer War he mobilized with the Frontier Mounted Rifles (No331) and served on operations in the Cape Colony and was recorded to have been posted to Bushman’s Hoek early in 1900 and was most probably in action with the FMR at Labushagne’s Nek. He later served as a Lance Corporal in ‘D’ Squadron, Cape Colonial Forces (Molteno). Operations 1902.The ‘South Africa 1902’ clasp is verified on the QSA Roll’s as being issued C/o J.A. Jubber, Blacksmith & Farrier of Molteno. He died at Fern Creek, Shangani, Rhodesia on 14.10.1942. Father; Alexander Jubber (1828-1903) and Mother, Hannah Palmer Ralph (1829-1919). He was one of 17 children whilst his father Alexander was a partner in the families Coach Building business in Molteno.
