Up for auction is a Rhodesian Majors uniform. The source I got the items from advised me that whilst he was doing National Service in 1983 he bought them from Major Stannard after a discussion about his brother who collected Militaria. At the time Major Stannard had joined the SADF with the same rank. He served in the Maintenance section Voortrekkerhoogte at 81 Technical Services Depot who were responsible for the receiving of returned and captured armaments and equipment. It is reported that Major Stannard is either the brother or father of Richard Stannard – Bronze Star of Rhodesia and Honorus Crux recipient and ill fated member of the Seychelles attempted coup under Mad Mike Hoare. Included in this lot are his Rhodesian Intelligence Corps stable Belt and Buckle and his Sam Brown belt, including sword hanger, in original box. Sam Brown and Box: The Sam Brown is in good condition and looks like it has been in the box for quite some time. The back of one of the straps has a triangular mark with the letters “B, S and G” around it. The belt box has quite a bit of wear, but is marked on the inside of the lid, as well as inside the box. The inside of the lid has been marked “B.W.P. Stannard” and the inside base is marked “To Pete with a signature and the date Nov. 1972” The Intelligence stable belt & buckle: Belt and buckle are in top condition. The back of the belt strap is marked with an “L” in a circle “Large”. The back of the buckle is stamped with the makers mark “REUTELER MFG SALISBURY”. The Uniform: The uniform has the Majors ranks on the shoulders on red backings and the collars on red backings as well. The medal ribbon bars have been removed from this uniform, but looks to have had quite a few gongs. Consists of jacket, trousers, green belt and green socks. I am made to believe that his officer’s cap and dress boots also came with the original purchase, but unfortunately cannot be found at present. Should they however be found, the winning bidder would be contacted and given the opportunity to acquire. All and all a nice lot of Rhodesian items. Feel free to ask any questions. Regarding measurements the following: trousers: Waist 97cm, inside crotch to end leg 77cm, total length 77cm. Green belt: 113cm. Jacket: Shoulder 43 cm, Sleeve 62 cm, inner sleeve 44cm, sleeve cuff 30cm, Chest size 108cm, waist 96cm. Not to sure what is meant with inseam.
The Intelligence Stable Belt size is large.
As a matter of interest I have found, with the assistance of a friend, the following: The B.W.P. on the inside of the Sam Brown Belt box stands for Barend W. Peter Stannard and he started his career in the BSAP. He reached the rank of Assistant Commissioner in the BSAP and was awarded the P.M.M. amongst his other medals. After retiring from BSAP he joined the Rhodesian Intelligence Corps as Major with the regimental no 781333, serving at HQ 1 Brigade. I am made to believe that there are 2 photograpgs of him in the new book on the BSAP "Blue and Old Gold"
