Despite the perception that natural Citrine is common, it is actually very very rare. HPJ have for some time been working with the family owners of a small mine in Luena (Lwena), which is located in the Katanga Province of the DRC (Congo). These Citrine’s have been ‘ethically’ mined by a family cooperative.

Natural Citrine is found in several locations around the globe, and historically has come from Spain, Scotland, France, Hungary, Brazil, Uruguay, as well as Russia. Today most natural Citrine comes from South America, and much smaller quantities from small mines in the Congo (DRC), and often is a by product of the mine’s main stream of business/mining.

A rarity for centuries, Citrine rose in popularity during the 1930s with greater availability, as it was and remains one of the few gemstones to display a brilliant yellow, or rich golden colour.
