Bridelia is a plant genus of the family Phyllanthaceae. This genus comprises approximately between 60 and 70 species, found from Africa, Australia and Asia. The genus Bridelia was named in the honor of Samuel Elisée Bridel-Brideri by the German botanist Carl Ludwig Willdenow. Bridelia mollis or Velvet sweetberry forms a spreading shrub or small tree up to 7 meters in height. It has dark brown to grey bark with rough longitudinal striations. The young leaves are golden & furry. During summer is bears small greenish-yellow flowers which are followed by edible fruit.
