Correct, if you get this item you do not need to use your ADSL modem. This device has a builded in ADSL modem. If you want to keep your modem you can by this product "http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/jsp/item/Item.jsp?Trade_TradeId=2035313". You can then plug your modem into this device and it will extend your internet coverage via WIFI.
