Antique Victorian British colonial Indian mahogany occasional table profusely decorated with high relief carvings of flowers with removable top upon an X-shaped folding support, with label to the underside. Made by Jubbar Khan and Son State Wood Carvers 3rd Bridge Srinagar Kashmir, 19th Century. Very Good condition (58 cm high x 47 cm x 52 cm)

Jubbar Khan was one of the better known wood carvers in Srinagar at the turn of the century, and his work has been specifically referred to in the exhibition catalogue Indian Art at Delhi 1903, by George Watt. This was published to coincide with the exhibition held in Delhi that aimed to classify and better understand Decorative Arts in India.

These tables are highly desirable and sell on international fine art auctions in Europe and America for R14 000+
