In December last year, I published a paper entitled The Truth behind the Griqua Town Coinage that exposed most of the nonsense that has been written about them.
For this I was awarded the National Numismatic Society’s Merit Medallion by the NNS President, Peter Wilson.
The paper was also welcomed by the broader South African Numismatic fraternity as the South African Mint recently issued a series of coins commemorating the Griqua Coinage of 1815/16 including the new Griqua 200 R5.
I decided to publish a follow-up paper; this time exposing the nonsense that has been written on the Strachan & Company (S & Co.) tokens that are punted as South Africa’s first indigenous currency.
During my research, I was truly gob smacked when reading the utter nonsense that has been written about these tokens.
But be warned!
This makes for some fascinating reading ...
After my award winning Griqua Town paper was published, I was viciously attacked on the internet by a lone Australian citizen for exposing the truth. It will probably happen again with the publication of this paper.
This very person has been banned from E-Bay after being caught out fraudulently bidding under an alias on his own coins to drive their prices up – the listed items were actually his own Strachan & Co. tokens. (He used his own wife as his fraudulent alias to bid on his own S & Co. tokens) .
But as the old saying goes “The Truth shall set you Free”
The Truth behind the Strachan & Co Tokens is an e-booklet that costs R20. There is no postage costs involved as it will be e-mailed to you.
Your donation of R20 will be used to further numismatic research in South Africa. Please support us and show solidarity against foreigners who wish to destroy our proudly South African coin heritage
