Catalpa speciosa Seeds

Northern Catalpa Tree Seeds

Frost hardy to -30° Celsius, the Northern Catalpa or Hardy Catalpa is the northern most representative of the tropical family of trees. It is a magnificently fast growing tree with enormous leaves and showy spring flowers. Growing to 6+ meters in only five years and eventually maturing at 15-21 meters, it is a great landscape specimen for fast growth. The tree has huge ornamental heart-shaped leaves that can be over 60cm wide on well grown specimens. Flowers are white with purple spots and orange stripes, fragrant, bell-shaped, about 7cm long and wide and are arranged in large, showy panicles. An easily grown tropical, it grows well in sun and partial shade, is very tolerant of soil type and grows well even in extremely hot, dry environments. The seeds of this tree require no special treatment - an easy tree that anyone can grow.
