Proof silver (Franklin Mint hallmarks for sterling silver on the edge). Diameter 32 mm. Mass 11 gm. Mounted on blue cardboard viewed between plastic windows and inside in a stamped addresses envelope (to the original American recipient). There is also a holder with nice things to say about South Africa.
The white marks in the medal images are because of the plastic through which the photos were taken.
