ULTRA ULTRA RARE (AND THEN SOME) 8.15 CARAT BURMESE ‘MAW SIT SIT’ CABOCHON

Dimensions: 21.70 x 13.29 x 6.26mm

Maw Sit Sit is still mined in the same manner as Imperial Jadeite has been mined for centuries; by hand, in the mud. Due to the fact that the mining area is very remote,  and that trucks don’t travel well to the site, miners have to continually dodge the automobile graveyards of those less-fortunate vehicles mired in the muck.  Miners have resorted to using teams of elephants to pull the vehicles from mud holes during the rainy season.

This is special stone for two reasons: One is the name. Its sort of fun to pronounce. If you ever want to test just how much someone knows about coloured gemstones...ask them about Maw Sit Sit. If they say: HUH?...you know you have someone still stuck in the main stream of the colored gemstone world. Second, its awful pretty !

A wonderful example of what the gemstone world can offer with an unusual name from a small place that no one has heard of...until of course they named a gemstone after it.
