There does seem to be a thinning of the rim from after the initial "A".
I checked the thickness of the rim at a number of points with a vernier caliper.
Thickness at force no. "8230" is 3.7mm
Thickness at the initial "A" is 3.7mm
Thickness at just after "IRONSIDE" is 3.4mm.
Thickness at middle of "RL. SCOTS" is 3.5mm.
Possible that something has been corrected or changed in the naming.
Clasp does swivel.
