An Achatit figure group, made in Germany, depicting three children singing (or reading, according to some websites). Produced by Achatit Werkstätten, founded by Hans Schirmer and the sculptor Peter Ludwig in 1948, which produced a very wide range of wall masks and figurines until it closed in 2004. Judging by the design of this item, and the style of the children's hair and clothes, this group was probably an early piece.
Achatit was a registered trademark for a non-ceramic material made by boiling finely powdered stone with sawdust as a binding agent, before pouring it into a mould. After cooling, the surface was finished by painting, gilding and polishing. In this case the surface has been given a bronze finish.
Condition: the head of the seated boy has been repaired, and the starting price takes this into account. There are also minor signs of wear, especially at the back.
Size: height 280 mm; base width 200 mm; weight +-1.2 kg.
