Toy maker Tri-ang is well known for their pressed metal scooters, dolls prams, tricycles, wheelbarrows, pull-wagons and blackboards, apart from the Minic and Spot-on ranges. But they also made ironing boards, folding tables and a variety of braais (barbeques), as well as building sets and Meccano look-alike construction sets. They also produced in South Africa a range of pressed metal toys under the name of Strike Whether co-incidentally or not, among some of the first toys marketed were of military and police vehicles, copying South Africa's indigenous, home grown defence transport. The Military Range, consisted of five different vehicles all in camouflage colours of brown and green, except for the South African Police (S.A.P.) vehicle which appeared in yellow. ‘U'-shaped body being designed to safeguard its occupants from land-mine blasts. The Casspir was designed with a ‘U'-shaped body to safeguard its occupants from land-mine blasts and used the chassis of a heavy truck which was all enclosed. A light machine gun being positioned over the front passenger's head for ease of operation. The rugged, aggressive look is mirrored well and with the all-terrain treaded tyres as well as twin spares mounted on each side at the rear make this toy look ready for any action. The wheels, covered by individual outboard mudguards, are In army group regimental colours on either side at the front above the bumper. Regimental colours appear also at the rear below the twin doors which can be opened. |
