Magnificent antique camel inkwell Austrian cold painted spelter c.1900 Ref. MA8
This large, magnificent, antique Austrian cold painted spelter inkwell is on offer.
Showing very nice detail of two Arabs and Camel by an oasis, it is in the manner of Franz Bergman. During the late 1800's to early 1900's, camels, Arabs and desert scenes featured prominently in many bronzes, spelter ware and wood. Although no definite date can be placed on the inkwell, it appears to be from the 1900-1910 era, although I have found reference dating these inkwells back to the late 1800's. The inkwell itself is hidden under the low palm fronds on the right. Some normal wear to its age otherwise beautiful coloration. The original glass ink holder has been replaced by a black plastic one, and, there has been some slight restoration to two legs. The word "Austria" is seen under the base. The overall size is 23.5cm in length x 11cm in width and 11cm in height with a weight of about 700 grams.
This is a genuine antique. The classification of an 'antique' is that it should be 100 years old, OR MORE. There are many articles being offered as 'antiques' when, clearly, they are not.
