Morella serrata commonly known as Berg-wasbessie or Smalblaar-wasbessie in Afrikaans and Lance-leaved Wax-berry and Mountain Waxberry in English is a South African indigenous species from the Eastern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Northern Cape, North West and Western Cape Provinces. It is synonymously known as Myrica aethiopica, Myrica conifera, Myrica mossii and Myrica serrata. Morella serrata grows into a shrub or small tree of 3 to 4 meters tall. It has rough grey to brownish bark and yellowish-green aromatic leaves with golden dots. During spring it produces short spikes of male & female flowers which are followed by edible fruits.
