Iron wood is a very hard and heavy wood that is found mainly in the Zimbabwe town called Bulawayo. Ironwood trees bloom in spring for short periods of about two weeks. Studies have led to estimate that some desert ironwood trees have lived for more than 800 years. The palo fierro wood is one of the hardest and heaviest woods in the world.
Its heartwood is rich in toxic chemicals that make it non-biodegradable and it is remarkably resistant to rotting. Ironwood also known by the common name black ironwood, from which this Eagle has been carved. It is an African tree species belonging to the Olive family (Oleaceae). It is widespread in Africa, being found almost throughout Africa south of the Sahara.

It is difficult to put a value to each of the arts and crafts as their method of pricing tends to vary amongst the producers. Producers put a lot of emphasis on the time spent making the particular piece. If it was highly labour intensive to produce an item (eg. The Elephant and the Eagle), then the higher the price. Secondly, design for a particular product also played a part (eg. The Eagle). The Giraffes tend to be more costly too due to the amount of time spent to carve it to perfection. Then the type of stone or wood that was used and explained why they have to ask a higher price, so the materials used were also considered in the pricing.
This collection of incredible stone and wood sculptures of animals with amazing detail. These Shona sculptures are excellent for home, office or conference centres. All these unique, one of a kind, collectables are for the serious collectors and they are really the best of the best. Compare it to any other simmilar crafts on the Internet and decide for yourself.
