Here is an unusual and beautiful piece of Italian art from the 1950s in remarkably excellent condition.
28.5 cm high. Just over 11 inches.
I am almost convinced that this is by Marcello Fantoni, a celebrated Italian ceramicist from the 1950s, but proof is so far lacking.
It would originally have had a sticker at the base, but sadly this is no longer there and the ceramic is not signed.
Ceramic is beautifully done in the abstract style and is in excellent condition. A warrior figure with shield and spear, obviously influenced by abstract artists such as Modigliani and Picasso.
Leather is strong, not worn or flaky. Top of pitcher is not chipped and the piece is not cracked.
I will pack this in polystyrene chips and box for safe travel.
