Centenary War Novelty FDC - Salved From The Sea - Dated May 6 1940 - this cover has been folded vertically as can be seen from the image, apart from which all else is good.
I have only ever heard of one other cover like this, Salved From The Sea & the English gentleman in whose possession it was could not be persuaded to part with it. So this is indeed a very great find.
A bit of information re: this cover
This Royal Philatelic Society Cover was cancelled with the Stamp Centenary Exhibition Red Cross London red hand stamp on the first day of the exhibition 6 May 1940 and than travelled as follows:
By mail boat to Montreal
By air mail to Vancouver
Pencilled above Air Mail Says Trans Canada
Back stamped with Guaranteed BCM/Airfield London
It was then sent back to Montreal by rail where it was transferred to a mail boat that was wrecked by enemy action.
It was salvaged, as can be seen by the Salved From The Sea - transferred to another boat and eventually returned to Liverpool. On the back is the following address 12 Cook Street Liverpool - also on the back is the International Postage Stamp Exhibit cancellation.
The explanation of events is on a piece of paper enclosed in the envelope.
