There are two varieties of this large bronze medal – the reverse showing either a single or double flanged wheel. This is the single flange medal.
Hern number 16 and Laidlaw number 0090 cataloguing at R3 000.00.
According to Professor Laidlaw ”The medal was issued (in 1895) to commemorate the official opening of the railway line between Pretoria and the Indian Ocean port of Delagoa Bay, close to Lorenzo Marques, the capital of the Portuguese colony of Mozambique”
