Tall Tibetan Buddhist statue of goddess 'White Tara'
*Please note that this item must be collected from our gallery only and cannot be shipped due to size and weight.
This absolutely exquisite carving is probably Tibetan in origin and of the goddess "White Tara", originally a Hindu deity widely adopted by the Buddhists.
Tara, an ancient mother goddess has 21 embodiments, one of whom is "White Tara" (Sitatara) who is regarded as the Bodhisattva of compassion and liberation.
She is hand carved from a solid piece of wood and is of quite a weight.
She is magnificently hand painted, her robes in soft blue and gold.
Her pose is graceful as she dances, her face perfect serenity, and she holds her hand up in a symbol of blessing.
We cannot be sure of the age of this piece, but it does have some age to it. Probably stood in a temple or open to the elements, the paint does have signs of chipping, cracking and peeling over the whole surface of the piece. There is also a long crack running down the back of the statue.
* Please take note! This piece is only available for direct collection from our gallery.
We are open everyday from Mon - Sun ( 9- 5 ) and Public Holidays.
