                                            Originally privately published in London in 1900,

                   393 figures on 50 full-page plates, with descriptions, orange cloth boards,

                       Thorold's Africana bookshop label, 102 pages, 245 x 310mm, condition: very good.


The author was an army officer, ethnologist, and archaeologist noted for his advances in archaeological methodology , and in the museum display of artifacts. He was also Inspector of Ancient Monuments in Great Britain. The author's collection of about 18,000 objects was the founding collection of the Pitt Rivers Museum at the University of Oxford.

The Museum displays the archaeological and anthropological collections of the University of Oxford.

Included in this lot is the book, 'General Pitt-Rivers, Evolution and Archaeology in the Nineteenth Century'                   by Dr.M. Thompson, Moonraker Press (1977).
