The ingredient powder melts and crystallises in successive layers. This type of synthesis uses an aluminium oxide powder doped with trace elements to create laboratory corundum of various types. It is also used to make lab spinel using another combination of elements. The process is a scientific laboratory crystal production method and offers very good value for money. Laboratory gems are therefore very affordable. The chemical make-up of a laboratory created gem is identical to it's more expensive natural counterpart.
