A bottle for soda or carbonated water - usually called a Hamilton - but also known as a torpedo bottle, egg ended bottle etc ! The idea of this bottle was that it had to lie on its side, thus keeping the cork wet to prevent it shrinking and allowing the "fizz" to escape.
These were first used around 1795 and continued in use right up to the early 1900's.
The bottle is dulled from having been buried, but in good condition; no chips or cracks - just one small burst surface bubble.
