Carved from African Black Serpentine stone, this piece is unique, and both in the expression made by the sculptor’s hands and in the natural patterns in the rock formed millions of years ago. A real master piece. Not to be missed.
In Shona folklore, the elephant or “Nzou” symbolizes patience and long life. Elephants are esteemed by the Shona for their great devotion, loyality and dedication for one another – all fundamental values in the Shona culture. Family bonds, respect for each other, support, nd love are central to their beliefs and the elephant, symbolizes this to them.

It is difficult to put a value to each of the arts and crafts as their method of pricing tends to vary amongst the producers. Producers put a lot of emphasis on the time spent making the particular piece. If it was highlynlabour intensive to produce an item (eg. The Elephant and the Eagle), then the higher the price. Secondly, design for a particular product also played a part (eg. The Eagle). The Giraffes tend to be more costly too due to the amount of time spent to carve it to perfection. Then the type of stone or wood that was used and explained why they have to ask a higher price, so the materials used were also considered in the pricing.
