Drimia is a genus of flowering plants. In the APG III classification system, it is placed in the family Asparagaceae, subfamily Scilloideae formerly the family Hyacinthaceae. The genus includes Urginea. They are bulbous plants that are deciduous or rarely evergreen. The bulbs often flower when no leaves are present. Drimia macrocentra, previously known as Urginea lilacina and Urginea macrocentra is a South African indigenous species from the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal Provinces. Commonly known as Snake’s Head in English and Slangkop in Afrikaans it received this name due to its sinuous inflorescence that is said to resemble the flared hood of a rearing cobra.
