A rare & beautiful Royal Worcester pot pourri bowl in the Persian style date marked 1899 Ref.T4
This is a outstanding porcelain Royal Worcester pot pourri bowl, raised on three paw feet & complete with a domed lattice scrollwork cover. Hand painted on a dark ivory background in shades of green, muted gold and a pink-brown, this is a stunning piece, worthy of any collection.
The style number G846 is found on the base of one foot and the backstamp (in green) showing six dots on each side of the crown with two dots below (dating the article to 1899) on another foot. Due to the fine intricate lattice work cover, these bowls are usually found damaged. The article offered above remains in excellent condition with no sign of restoration.
During the late 1880's, Richard Binns, the Art Director at the time, introduced articles based on various styles, including Persian, Japanese, Greek and Reanissance ideas. The Pot Pourri bowl is typical of the Persian style, showing a base of moulded leaves and a frieze of flowers, leaves and vines. The scrollworked cover is typically Persian.
The bowl measures 13cm in height and is 18 cm in diameter.
Please note, I am NOT a qualified archaeologist/antiquarian and the description I have given is based on research of the subject.
This is a genuine antique. The classification of an 'antique' is that it should be 100 years old, OR MORE. There are many articles being offered as 'antiques' when, clearly, they are not.
