Watsonia lepida Seeds

Family: Iridaceae

Watsonia is a genus of plants in the Iridaceae family native to South Africa. The genus is named after Sir William Watson, a British botanist.

There are 52 species in southern Africa; all are perennial herbs growing from corms and producing erect spikes of showy flowers, and are adapted to a mediterranean-type climate.

Watsonia lepida is a South African indigenous species from the KwaZulu-Natal and Free State Provinces over the Drakensberg Mountain range. It grows from 25cm to 65cm tall with three to four leaves with thickened margins. This summer growing species bears pink to pink-purple flowers during summer. The seeds are best sown at the start of spring.
