1987 Hard Cover 140pp

Very Good in Very Good jacket, lightly shelf worn, edge bumping and rubbing, Crease on inside flysheet (see image below), sellotape marks, foxing and toning on flysheets, contents clean and tightly bound.

Trevor Boyer, one of Britain's foremost birdlife illustrators, and Philip Burton, a zoologist with the British Museum, chose the thirty eagles represented in this book both for their diversity and their status as among the most endangered species.

The paintings graphically illustrate why eagles have been traditionally regarded as regal birds; their size, their deep hooked bill, the bony shelf over their huge forward-directed eyes, their great wing span, and their long talons.

The text brings to light the truth about their rare kills and discusses their courtship displays, including the spectacular "sky dance". "Vanishing Eagles" should inspire both respect for the eagle and concern for its future. Philip Burton graduated from the University College of London with a degree in Zoology and wrote his doctoral thesis on "feeding adaptations in waders".

After several years teaching, Dr. Burton joined the British Museum (Natural History) in 1967 where he was in charge of the anatomical collection of birds. The illustrator, Trevor Boyer was born in England in 1948. At the age of 14, he won a place to study at the Wakefield School of Art after which he worked as a commercial artist.

At the age of twenty seven, Trevor - a keen birdwatcher since his childhood - became a freelance artist specializing in birds. He has travelled extensively around the world to observe birds in their natural habitats. His work has been published in numerous books, and has been exhibited and sold at Sotheby's and Christie's, London.

He has illustrated bird books for many major international publishers, including a twenty-volume encyclopedia for Arete Publishing of Princeton, New Jersey, an encyclopedia produced by Italian publisher Mondadori for the Japanese market and the bulk of the illustrations for Readers' Digest's latest bird books.
