Anglo Boer War Newspaper (Pietersburg): De Zoutpansberg Wachter 23-26 March 1900

I have a few of these one-page newspapers currently on auction.

For protection, they are all affixed to a hard woven cardboard at the back.

This is the edition dated 23-26 March 1900

According to an internet source:

"In 1896, drie jaar voor die Anglo-Boereoorlog uitgebreek het, het die Zoutpansberg Wachter sy eerste verskyning gemaak. Die koerant, met Nederlands as voertaal, is begin deur ‘n mnr. M van der Burg en was in opposisie met die Zoutpansberg Review. Die koerant was die Boeremagte baie goedgesind en het ‘n belangrike rol gespeel tydens die oorlog. Toe die Britse weermag noordwaarts begin beweeg het, het die Boeremagte in Pietersburg saamgetrek, en gedurende dié periode is die Zoutpansberg Wachter toegelaat om geldnote en seëls namens die Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek te druk.

Op 7 April 1901 het die Britse magte Pietersburg beset en so ook die kantore van die Zoutpansberg Wachter. Die Britse magte het besluit om op 12 April 1901 een laaste uitgawe van die koerant te publiseer – in Engels. ‘n Britse offisier het die hoofberig geskryf waarin hy probeer verduidelik hoekom die dorp beset is en hoe hopeloos die Boeremagte se situasie is. Kort hierna het die Engelse die gebou opgeblaas, kompleet met die drukpers en ander masjinerie".
