DOUWE EGBERTS SILVER PLATED REPOUSSE TEA CADDY WITH LID AND FILIAL -- COLLECTABLE
These beautiful tea caddies, or also to be used as trinket boxes, were factory commissioned in the 1960's by Dutch coffee and tea maker Douwe Egberts to be given as gifts redeemed with points for buying coffee. They were made by silversmith Herbert Hooijkaas of Schoonhoven. They are marked with the DE logo of Douwe Egberts and some with HH90 which stands for Herbert Hooikaas, Schoonhoven and stands for silverplate. The caddy is decorated using repousse, a metalworking technique in which a malleable metal is ornamented or shaped by hammering from the reverse side to create a design in low relief. The village scenes depicted on the caddy cover the entire surface as well as the lid of the caddy.
This Item is ONE of a very LIMITED series/edition and RARE. It is not only VERY collectable but also Beautifully Ornamental.
