A LABELLED MICHAEL HARRIS MDINA (MALTA) VASE (OR EVEN PAPERWEIGHT) FROM HIS AWARD-WINNING AZURENE RANGE (1970s)
Michael Harris may truly be described as England's premier art glass designer.
Born in 1933 in Derbyshire, he was a student at London's Royal College of Art and he founded Mdina Glass in Malta in 1968.
His Azurene range won a Design Council Award in 1979, resulting in a waiting list of two years for his glassware!
Michael sadly passed away in 1994, leaving his wife Elizabeth and sons Tim and Jonathan to continue his considerable legacy.

Most of my Czech art glass items offered for sale were designed for and made at the Skrdlovice/Beranek factory.
The images below were taken shortly before the factory's closure in 2008.
* Please note that glass from the mid-20th century is vintage glassware and age related signs of wear such as small fine surface scratches/marks should be expected. The items are hand-made, they may have imperfections such as bubbles, inclusions and lumps within the glass. Tool marks from where they have been shaped and worked in the manufacturing process can often be seen. As this indicates authenticity and forms an inherent part of the character of handmade crystal glass, these are normally not considered as faults by collectors.
* This magnificent item is original hand-made art glass from Malta (and not Italian Murano, Daum, Kosta Boda, Orrefors, Flygsfors, Swarovski, Leerdam, Val St Lambert, Whitefriars or Lalique studio glass). I personally handpicked this beauty for my private collection. Sadly, with retirement now a reality, I am compelled to scale down and I hope that this beautiful object will provide its new owner with much joy.XKOTOI
