The city of Karur is located within the state of Tamil Nadu and is the main city of Karur District. Karur is one of the oldest cities in Tamil Nadu with a recorded history stretching back over 2000 years. Historically it is said that Aquamarine gemstones that were of medium dark blue in color were first found in Madagascar. However, it is not found there anymore. Today these gems are mined in countries like Brazil, India, Tanzania, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Russia, and Afghanistan.
