A  beautiful big 17.30 Carat Natural Kunzite of wonderful quality. The colour is quite extraordinary and is approaching 'Padparadscha'. The superbly proportioned pear cut would lend itself to a very uniquely beautiful pendant.

It has journeyed far to reach us - firstly from the Patroke Mine, in the Kunar Valley of Afghanistan, and then across the Hindu Kush into Pakistan, and then next to the Hazara region of Northeastern Pakistan and then to Abbottabad in the Orash Valley.

From there to South Africa, and HPJ.....

Kunzite, the pastel pink to lavender color of the mineral Spodumene, was virtually unknown to most gemstone buyers until the Sotheby's auction of a very special Kunzite ring in 1996. Among the jewelry from the Estate of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was a ring with a 47 carat cushion-cut Kunzite stone surrounded by 20 round diamonds and set in 18k gold. The ring was originally purchased by President John F. Kennedy as a Christmas gift for his wife in 1963.

Kunzite was named after the New York gemologist and jeweler George Frederick Kunz, as he was the first person to give a comprehensive description of the stone.

Patroke Kunzite is highly prized on the international gem markets. Named for its mine, Patroke Kunzite (pronounced: Pa-Tro-Kee) hails from the Kunar Valley in Afghanistan's Kunar Province. The primary geographic features of the Province are the Hindu Kush mountains, and the Kunar River, which flows through the Valley.

According to the gemstone pioneers, this evening stone opens the path of spirituality for the wearer. The reason being, it builds a perfect coordination between mind and heart. Moreover, its pink color is associated with the property of blending the energies of mind and heart. Therefore it is referred as a 'Stone of Balance' offering emotional calmness, peace, security, harmony and maturity.
