Original oil on canvas, 60 x 45cm unframed, by well known artist Brian Shear (1935-2011).  He is a South African Artist who has become a household name around the country and by art enthusiasts alike. Brian is a painter of landscapes, seascapes, still-life and nudes. Brian has done many figure studies and abstract paintings. A versatile artist who has painted from abstracts, portraits, wildlife to South African township scenes.

Brian works mainly with oils on canvass but also works in acrylics, watercolours, pastels, charcoal pen and pencils.

In his earlier years, Brian studied at the Michaelis Art School in Cape Town under the training of Rupert Shepherd, Maurice van Essche and Lippy Lipchitz. He then went on to establish his own gallery in Port Elizabeth and kept this going for almost twenty years. During this time he partook in a number of group and one-man shows and exhibitions which started off his road to success.

After moving to Johannesburg in the early eighties he continued to work as a freelance artist.
Brian has spent almost all his life creating paintings of beauty and has sold a great number of paintings throughout his long career as one of South Africa’s most loved artist. These include dignitaries and leading members of the African National Congress, as well as George McGovern – a former United States presidential candidate. Brian has also painted many politicians on commission.

He has a warm magnetic personality and this warmth is reflected in all of his works. His works are fast becoming collectors’ items.
