Large signed lithograph 'Landscape in Marenna' by Chris Lebeau (Joris Johannes Christian Lebeau) dated 1924,  signed in pencil and framed in exotic Zebra wood veneer, 92 x 70 cm including frame. The frame has some minor damage to the veneer in place. Lebeau (born Amsterdam 1878) was an influential Dutch artist known for his prints, paintings, sculptures, book illustration, textile design, batiks, glass and theatre interiors.

Lebeau was also a leading communist and an anti-militarist, he was imprisoned by the Nazis when Germany invaded Holland during the Second World War and died in Dachau concentration camp in 1945.  Lebeau was married to a refugee German Jew and used his artistic talents to forge documents to enable Dutch Jews and other refugees flee the Nazi oppression, he was given the choice to desist or face prosecution, he refused and ended his days in Dachau.
