A personal favourite of mine, this gorgeous Aristocracy piece may be truly described as ‘unisex’. It is all about beautiful curves and exquisitely sweeping form. My favourite word that I have heard used to describe this uniquely different ring is ‘sexy’ – well, I can see why.
After completion, this piece went on exhibition in Monaco, New York, and Moscow with REVELATIONS 3: ISIS.
I thought that perhaps you may like to hear the story of its creation…
The story began when the beautiful Black Opal that you will see in the images arrived with us from Tsehay Mewcha, in Ethiopia. The moment I saw it, I knew that it had to be in a ring…
It weighed 4.90 Carats, and possessed the most stunning harlequin colourplay. It was mined at the old mine in Tsehay Mewcha, Ethiopia, which is legendary in the gem world for its high quality, and spectacular, Opals.
We opted for two diamonds to be set into the piece, and they are visible on the photo of the finished piece. ‘French Set’ into the side of the mount is a high quality 16 Pointer Natural African Diamond (Colour G and VVS). Also, you will note the small Aristocracy ‘Signature’ diamond set into the top of the shank, which was also ‘French Set’.
We took a brave decision to make this ring ‘seamless’ – no joins. Effectively, this one thing made Gavin’s work a monumental task to undertake.
Whenever Gavin says to me “It’s impossible Jeff”, I just smile and walk away…
When the piece was nearing completion Gavin came up with the idea of lightly ‘sandblasting’ the gold, to give it a textured effect. I loved the idea, and so we adopted it. I think you can see that it really took the piece into a new dimension!
