Antimima is placed in the Aizoaceae family. There are 99 recorded species in this genus. Several of them like Antimima lawsonii are referred to as cushion mesembs, referring to the compact little hills of small succulent leaves developing an elevation in the centre with long stems hidden below. The range of the genus Antimima spreads from southern Namibia southward to the Eastern Cape Province in South Africa; most are indigenous to South Africa. A few species are found in the Northern Cape Province and the Free State. In general, the plants form dense, symmetrical cushions. The flowers, which can appear throughout the year, are pink to purple and can appear in clusters or be solitary and are usually strongly scented. They open in the morning and close in the evenings. The genus is closely related to the genus Ruschia, the only real difference being in the seed capsule structure. Many of the plants in the Antimima genus were transferred from Ruschia recently. In general the plants are not finicky and are easily propagated by seed or cutting. Large species do well as rockery plants, while the small species make good pot subjects.

Antimima dualis is a compact succulent that naturally grows in the Knersvlakte region of South Africa. It is very well suited to pot culture which adds to its ease of cultivation. Throughout the year it bears striking sessile magenta pink flowers with flowering peaking in winter.
