The Microloma genus, consisting of 10 species, occurs predominantly in the winter rainfall area of South Africa and southern Namibia. The members are non-succulent perennials in the subfamily Astephaninae. Some form small shrubs whilst others are robust scramblers and twiners. Microloma sagittatum is naturally found growing along the Western coast of South Africa as far north as the Richtersveld. Microloma sagittatum is quite variable both in leaf size and flower colour.
