WIMBLEDON GREEN

THE GREATEST COMIC BOOK COLLECTOR IN THE WORLD

A STORY FROM THE SKETCHBOOK OF THE CARTOONIST " SETH "

"From the critically acclaimed cartoonist of "Clyde" and "It's a Good Life", comes a humorous graphic novel on the obsession of comic-book collecting. A charming and amusing caper where comic-book collecting is a world of intrigue and high-finance."

This book was created on a lark. Actually, it was never even intended to be a book at all - merely an exercise in one of my sketchbooks. Around the time I began doodling it out, I had been particularly interested in a certain kind of storytelling I had noticed several other cartoonists working with - specifically Dan Clowes, Chris Ware, and David Heatley. It's an approach wherein you tell a longer story through a variety of shorter, unconnected comic strips. Cumulatively they add up to a bigger picture. These works were quite inspiring and I figured I'd give it a try. Also around this time I was reading a wonderful book about bibliophiles called A Gentle Madness by Nicholas A. Basbanes.

The eccentric and obsessive behavior of these book collectors struck me as great character material, and it didn't take much effort to transfer them from the world of first editions to the world of comic books.
