These prints are a series of 12 sketches selected from the book Shadows of War by Peter Badcock and reproduced in limited numbers. Only 100 Of these series were produced.
The book, Shadows of War was itself a limited signed and numbered edition of 1500 copies, which since published in 1978 became the fastest selling book in Rhodesia. In addition, its value as a collectors item has rapidly risen.
Shadows of War recorded the transition from peace through the initial tensions and overtures, training, preparations and separations to the harsh reality in the face of war. The violence of conflict, the strain, the grief and sometimes humour are mirrored in these drawings, capturing, in the face of some of those involved, the spectrum of emotion that inevitably reflects the turmoil of a nation at war.
